If your car breaks down just before a trip, the quickest way forward is this: find out how long the repair will take, choose a vehicle according to the number of passengers and the amount of luggage, call the car rental company and have your documents ready. At JJ Rent Car, you can rent a vehicle from just one day, and by arrangement we can deliver it to you anywhere in Prague. Please always confirm current availability by phone on +420 703 149 146, as it depends on which vehicles are free at the time.
What to Do in the First Minutes After a Breakdown
First of all, there is no need to panic. A few steps will save you time:
- Secure the vehicle and arrange towing. If the car will not run, use the assistance service provided by your insurer or your garage.
- Find out the repair estimate. The garage will usually tell you whether it is a matter of hours, days or weeks. This will help you decide how long to rent a vehicle for.
- Take your luggage and belongings out of the car. Child seats, roof carriers, documents and chargers will come in handy when you move to the replacement vehicle.
- Decide where you are going and with whom. The number of passengers, the amount of luggage and the route will determine the most suitable model.
If you need a replacement only for the duration of the repair, you may also find our article on a replacement car during servicing or repairs helpful. Here, we focus on situations where there is very little time before departure.
What to Have Ready Before You Call
Your reservation will go more quickly if you have the basic information to hand. The car rental company will need:
- a valid driving licence,
- proof of identity,
- confirmation that you are at least 21 years old,
- an idea of the rental period and your destination,
- the ability to pay a deposit; the amount for each vehicle is shown on its detail page.
You can read the full rules in the rental terms and conditions. If you would like to know how the pick-up process works, please also read our article on picking up and returning the car.
Which Vehicle to Choose for Your Type of Trip
Do not rush into the first available car. A few minutes of consideration will save you trouble on the road.
City Driving and Short Business Trips
For one or two people with light luggage, the Škoda Fabia is sufficient. It has a 1.0 TSI engine, a manual gearbox, air conditioning and five seats. It is practical if you mainly need to get around Prague or attend a few meetings. The car has no built-in navigation, so please rely on your phone.
Families, Holidays and Plenty of Luggage
If you are travelling with four people and suitcases, the Škoda Octavia Combi is a sensible choice. It is a mid-size car with a 1.6 TDI engine, a manual gearbox and five seats. It is a spacious estate rather than a sporty car. For more passengers or a larger group, take a look at the Kodiaq 7 seats.
Long Journeys and Comfort
For longer motorway journeys, a large car with an automatic gearbox and navigation is a pleasant option, for example the Superb Combi or Superb Liftback. The advantage is a more relaxed drive after several hours behind the wheel.
Mileage and Rental Period
For most vehicles in our fleet, the daily mileage limit decreases as the rental period gets longer. For one day, it is 300 km per day; for 2–5 days, 250 km per day; and for 6–14 days, 200 km per day. For longer rentals, the limit decreases gradually. Before choosing your rental period, please estimate your route roughly.
The daily rate is charged per 24 hours. If you collect the car on Friday at noon, please expect to return it at noon the following day. You can find specific prices on the vehicle detail page or during booking.
Vehicle Delivery When You Cannot Leave the Garage or Your Workplace
When you are without a car, getting to the rental office can be inconvenient. That is why it is worth asking about delivery. We provide it in Prague following arrangement by phone or e-mail. You can find out more about how delivery works in the article on vehicle delivery in Prague. You can also browse other options on the services page.
You will find our branch in Westfield Černý Most at Chlumecká 765/6, Prague 14. Contact details and a map are available on the contact page.
Travelling Abroad in a Replacement Car
If you had planned to travel abroad, please note that trips outside the Czech Republic are possible only by prior arrangement and only to EU countries. Assistance service is mandatory for travel abroad. Please mention this during your first call, not only at pick-up. The vehicles have compulsory third-party liability insurance and collision insurance; in the event of an accident, the client pays an excess depending on the type of insurance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a car on the same day?
It depends on current fleet availability and on the time you contact us. The surest way is to call and confirm availability.
How many days should I rent a car for if I do not know how long the repair will take?
Choose a shorter period based on the garage's estimate. If the repair takes longer, please arrange an extension with the rental company in good time, ideally before the end of the rental.
Do I need to have a deposit with me?
The rental company requires a deposit depending on the type of vehicle. The amount is shown on the vehicle detail page, so you can find it out in advance.
Can a replacement car be rented for a company?
Yes. If you need vehicles repeatedly or for a longer period, take a look at long-term rental or operating leasing from two months.
