The Škoda Octavia suits anyone in Prague who needs a spacious, economical and understated car for five people without paying extra for equipment. Typical uses include business trips, a family weekend, a longer journey around the Czech Republic and the EU, or a period when you have no car of your own. We offer it as the Škoda Octavia sedan with a 1.6 TDI diesel engine and a manual transmission. Below you will find specific situations, the equipment and the points worth preparing for.
Who the Octavia is a good choice for
1. For a business trip or meeting
The sedan has a restrained, professional look. It seats four to five people and has room for the luggage of colleagues attending the same meeting. If you are deciding whether the car is better suited to company use, please also read our earlier article on the Octavia sedan for business trips.
2. For a family weekend or a short holiday
Five seats, air conditioning and a sedan-style boot are enough for two adults and children on a trip around the Czech Republic. However, if you are carrying a lot of large luggage or a pushchair, please consider the estate version (see below).
3. For a temporary period without your own car
Your car may be in the workshop, you may be waiting for a new vehicle, or you may need short-term cover before a purchase. In such cases the Octavia is a sensible compromise: it is not a small city car, but neither is it unnecessarily large.
4. For longer journeys
The 1.6 TDI diesel is typically the choice for drivers who cover more kilometres. The daily mileage limit decreases as the rental period gets longer, so please calculate your route in advance (see the table below).
5. For a company that needs a car for several weeks or months
If you need a car for a longer period, it is worth looking at long-term rental. You do not have to buy the car or deal with servicing.
Equipment and technical specifications
According to the data from our fleet:
- 1.6 TDI engine (diesel),
- manual transmission,
- 5 seats,
- air conditioning: yes,
- navigation: no.
The car has no built-in navigation. To find your way around Prague and beyond, please prepare navigation on your phone, together with a suitable holder or cable. Please also make sure you are comfortable driving a manual car, as this model is not available with an automatic transmission. If you need an automatic, please take a look at the Škoda Superb Liftback, which has both an automatic transmission and navigation.
Space and practicality
The Octavia sedan has a separate boot, which is convenient for everyday luggage and keeps your belongings out of sight of the cabin. We do not state the exact boot volume in this article; if you have specific cargo (golf clubs, a pushchair, suitcases for four), please call us and we will arrange it together. The sedan is the better option for those who mainly carry suitcases and bags. Anyone carrying oversized items should consider the Octavia Combi, which has the same engine and transmission.
Mileage limits and rental length
The daily rate is charged per 24 hours, and the daily mileage limit decreases as the rental period gets longer:
- 1 day: 300 km/day,
- 2–5 days: 250 km/day,
- 6–14 days: 200 km/day,
- 15–29 days: 150 km/day,
- 30 days or more: 100 km/day.
For example, on a one-day trip from Prague you have plenty of margin, whereas on a monthly rental you will need to plan ahead. For higher mileage, a long-term option or operating leasing is a better choice. It assumes a mileage of 3,000 km per month and is intended for rentals of two months or more.
