For a weekend away from Prague, choose a car according to how many of you are travelling and how much luggage you will be taking: for one or two people with a small bag, the Škoda Fabia is enough; for a family or four adults with suitcases, the Octavia Combi is more practical; and for a larger group, choose the Kodiaq 7 míst. A weekend usually means two days and one or two nights away from the city, so it pays to choose for comfort, not just for size.
How to Choose a Car According to Passengers and Luggage
The most common mistake is to count only the seats. A car may have five seats, but four adults with four suitcases, handbags and perhaps a pushchair will be a challenge for a small boot. Try writing down in advance what you will actually be carrying.
- 1–2 people, light luggage: The Škoda Fabia with a 1.0 TSI engine and air conditioning is an economical choice for short trips. It has a manual gearbox and no navigation system, so plan on using your phone in a holder.
- 2–3 people, looking for more fun: The Fabia vRS has a 1.5 TSI engine, an automatic gearbox and navigation.
- 4–5 people with suitcases, sports equipment or a pushchair: an estate car is the best fit. The Octavia Combi with the 1.6 TDI diesel offers a large boot and reasonable fuel consumption on longer routes.
- Long journeys and comfort: The Superb Combi has an automatic gearbox, a 2.0 TDI engine and navigation, making for pleasant, stress-free travel.
- 6–7 people: The Kodiaq 7 míst is the solution for two families or a group of friends. Please bear in mind that with a full crew of seven, the luggage space is reduced.
- Mountains, uncertain roads, winter: The Kodiaq with 4x4 drive and an automatic gearbox gives you greater confidence.
A practical rule: if you are torn between two sizes, take the larger one. Over two to three days of travel, the difference in comfort is noticeable.
Weekend Trip Ideas from Prague
A good weekend destination is one that you can reach in a reasonable time and where there is plenty to do without rushing. Here are a few ideas that you can easily reach by car from Prague:
- Karlštejn and the Bohemian Karst: a castle, walks in the surrounding countryside and smaller towns along the way. Suitable for families with children.
- Kutná Hora: the historic centre and cathedral, ideal for a day trip with an evening return.
- Křivoklátsko: forests, a castle and hiking. A car is useful, as public transport here tends to be less frequent.
- Bohemian Paradise (Český ráj): rock towns and viewpoints, well suited to two days with an overnight stay.
- Podřipsko and Terezín: a shorter route combining history with nature.
- Saxon Switzerland or Dresden: if you would like to cross the border, this is a trip within the EU. However, travel abroad must be arranged in advance, and the assistance service is mandatory.

How Many Kilometres to Allow for a Weekend
The daily rate is charged per 24 hours, and the mileage limit depends on the length of the rental. For rentals of 2–5 days, the limit is 250 km per day; for a one-day rental, it is 300 km per day. For a weekend trip this is usually more than enough, but before you set off, make a rough calculation of your route, especially if you are planning several stops.
If you are considering an electric car, we offer the Škoda Enyaq iV. It is a comfortable SUV with an automatic gearbox, but for a weekend route you should plan your charging in advance. If you are not sure which type of drive suits your plans, please call us.
How to Book a Weekend Car
- Choose your dates and car. Friday to Sunday is popular, so please do not leave your booking until the last minute.
- Prepare your documents. You will need a valid driving licence, proof of identity and a minimum age of 21. The amount of the deposit depends on the type of car and can be found on the car's detail page.
- Arrange the pick-up. You can collect the car at our Westfield Černý Most branch in Prague 14, or, after arrangement by phone or e-mail, we can deliver the car to a location in Prague.
- Check the car and the insurance. All vehicles have compulsory third-party liability insurance and collision insurance; however, in the event of an accident, the customer pays an excess depending on the type of insurance. You will find the details in the rental terms.
