If you need a car in Prague for three, four or more weeks and want a vehicle that can handle both city traffic and regular longer routes, the Škoda Octavia with a 1.6 TDI engine and manual transmission is a sensible choice. It has five seats, air conditioning, and a diesel engine that typically performs economically on longer journeys. However, it is crucial to calculate your mileage in advance, as our daily limits decrease with rental duration.
Who the Octavia sedan is for
A longer rental typically covers one of these situations:
- A project or work stay in Prague – you need to travel to different locations daily and don't want long-term commitment.
- Regular business trips – for example, between Prague and regional branches.
- A temporary period – you are waiting for your own car delivery or dealing with an extended repair.
- Trial period for a new colleague – your company prefers not to enter a lease agreement immediately.
The sedan with separate boot space is ideal if you carry mainly suitcases and bags rather than bulky items. If you know you will transport larger cargo, consider the Octavia Combi instead and read the article on the Combi for a multi-week rental.
Mileage limit: calculate your route in advance
The daily limit for all our vehicles depends on the rental duration:
- 1 day: 300 km/day
- 2–5 days: 250 km/day
- 6–14 days: 200 km/day
- 15–29 days: 150 km/day
- 30+ days: 100 km/day
As a guide: with a 20-day rental, you have 150 km per day available, or approximately 3000 km total. This provides a comfortable margin if you drive mainly around Prague and the surrounding area. If you know you will accumulate significantly more mileage monthly, or conversely plan a rental from two months onwards, compare this with operational leasing, which accounts for 3000 km of mileage per month.
Practical approach: estimate a typical week (commute, meetings, weekend trip), multiply by the number of weeks, and add a safety margin. If you are unsure, call us and we will discuss your route.
Fuel consumption and range in general
We won't promise an exact consumption figure, as it depends on driving style, season, load, and the mix of city and motorway driving. Generally:
- The 1.6 TDI diesel engine is typically more economical on longer routes and motorways than on short city trips.
- In winter, consumption increases due to heating and a cold engine.
- Smooth driving and speed compliance save more fuel than any trick.
- Diesel range on a full tank is comfortable, so with regular journeys you won't need to refuel too frequently.
You cover fuel costs yourself, so we recommend monitoring consumption in the first week and adjusting your route planning accordingly. When returning the vehicle, follow the instructions in the handover protocol, which you should clarify upon collection.
Manual or automatic?
The Octavia sedan has a manual transmission. For most drivers, this is ideal; for some, however, it can be tiring in heavy city traffic. If you prefer an automatic and equipment with navigation, check out the Škoda Superb Liftback, which is available with an automatic transmission. The Octavia sedan does not include navigation as standard; use your phone with a holder.
What to prepare before collection
To rent a car, you will need:
- a valid driving licence,
- an identity document,
- a minimum age of 21,
