Octavia, Superb or Kodiaq for Business: How to Choose by Use

If your company is looking for a business car to rent, a simple rule applies: choose the Octavia for everyday errands and regular trips around the Czech Republic, the Superb for long routes and transporting clients, and the Kodiaq for fieldwork, winter conditions or larger groups of people. Three things decide it: what the car does all day, how many kilometres it covers, and how many people or how much cargo it carries. Below you will find how to work this out and what to base your choice on.

First, Work Out the Mileage

With a rental, the kilometre limit depends on the length of the hire. The following daily limits apply to the Octavia, the Superb and the Kodiaq (4x4 version):

  • 1 day: 300 km/day
  • 2–5 days: 250 km/day
  • 6–14 days: 200 km/day
  • 15–29 days: 150 km/day
  • 30 days or more: 100 km/day

A practical example: a week-long business trip around the country with a daily limit of 200 km gives you a total of 1,400 km. A monthly rental at 100 km/day means roughly 3,000 km. Before choosing a car, estimate the realistic daily mileage of your sales representative, technician or manager. If they regularly come close to the limit, it is better to look for a solution with a longer contract. Long-term rental and operating leasing (from two months, with 3,000 km per month) are designed precisely for companies with regular operations. You will find details on the pages about long-term rental and operating leasing.

Octavia: The Workhorse for Everyday Use

The Škoda Octavia Combi and the saloon both have a 1.6 TDI engine, a manual gearbox, five seats and air conditioning. They have no built-in navigation, but most drivers solve this with a phone in a holder.

When it makes sense:

  • a sales representative who visits customers in Prague and the surrounding area,
  • a service technician who carries tools and samples (estate),
  • an employee on probation, when you do not yet know how much they will drive,
  • a short-term stopgap until a company car arrives.

The saloon suits situations where a professional image matters but a large boot is not needed. You can read more in the article on the Octavia Saloon for business trips. Just be mindful of the manual gearbox: if the car will be driven by colleagues used to an automatic, it is better to choose a higher class.

Superb: When You Cover Hundreds of Kilometres a Day

The Škoda Superb Combi has a 2.0 TDI engine, an automatic gearbox, navigation and air conditioning. The Superb Liftback has a 2.0 TSI engine, also with an automatic gearbox. Both versions belong to the large car category.

It is well suited for:

  • drivers who spend most of their working day behind the wheel and will appreciate an automatic,
  • transporting clients or business partners, where comfort and impression matter,
  • business trips with colleagues and luggage, when you need space in both the rear seats and the boot,
  • journeys on unfamiliar routes, where the built-in navigation helps.

The choice between the estate and the liftback is mainly about what you carry and which engine you prefer. If you frequently transport materials or samples, choose the estate. For carrying only employees and guests, the liftback is sufficient.

Kodiaq: Rough Terrain, Winter and Larger Groups

The Škoda Kodiaq has a 2.0 TDI engine, an automatic gearbox with 4x4 drive, five seats, air conditioning and navigation. There is also a Kodiaq 7-seater variant.

Choose it when:

  • your team travels to construction sites, quarries, rural premises or the mountains,
  • winter driving is a concern and you need all-wheel drive,
  • you are taking more people to events (seven-seat version),
  • you want a higher seating position and space for equipment or gear.

Please note that an SUV is not usually necessary for purely urban use. If the car will mainly travel from the office to clients around Prague, the Octavia or the Superb will be the more practical choice.

How to Choose in Five Questions

  1. How many km per day will it cover? Up to roughly 200 km, the Octavia is enough; for longer routes, consider the Superb.
  2. How many people are you carrying? All three models have five seats; only the Kodiaq 7-seater has seven.
  3. What are the terrain and the season? For unpaved roads and winter, the Kodiaq 4x4 is the one.
  4. Who will be driving? For those inexperienced with a manual gearbox, choose the Superb or the Kodiaq with an automatic.
  5. How long do you need the car? From two months, consider long-term rental or operating leasing.
