If you are going on holiday as a party of four or five and luggage is your main concern, an estate car will be more than sufficient, for example the Škoda Octavia Combi or the more spacious Škoda Superb Combi. The Škoda Kodiaq 7-seater makes sense when six or seven of you are travelling, or when grandparents or other relatives are joining you. What matters is the number of seats and the amount of luggage, not how "family-friendly" a car appears to be.
First, Count Your Passengers and Suitcases
Before you start comparing cars, please answer three questions:
- How many of us are travelling? For up to five people, any of the 5-seat cars in our range will be sufficient. For six or more, you will need a seven-seater.
- How much luggage will we have? Two adults, two children, a pushchair and suitcases for a week are a very different load from three people with backpacks.
- How many hours will we spend in the car? On a long journey, you will appreciate comfort, an automatic transmission and satellite navigation.
As a general rule with seven-seaters, when all seats are occupied there is considerably less space left for luggage than in an estate car. If a family of seven is travelling with holiday luggage, please get in touch with us in advance and tell us everything you plan to bring. You will find the exact specifications of each car on its detail page.
When an Estate Car Is Enough
An estate car is a sensible choice when four or five people are travelling and you mainly need a large boot.
- Škoda Octavia Combi (1.6 TDI, manual, 5 seats, air conditioning) is a practical choice for a family of four with children. It has no built-in navigation, so please plan on using navigation on your phone.
- Škoda Superb Combi (2.0 TDI, automatic, 5 seats, air conditioning, navigation) is well suited to longer journeys where you want an automatic and built-in navigation.
The advantages of an estate are a low loading sill and easy packing of luggage. If you do not need more than five seats, there is no point in taking a car with seven seats that you will not use.
When the Kodiaq 7-Seater Pays Off
Choose the Kodiaq 7-seater (2.0 TDI, automatic transmission, air conditioning, navigation) when:
- six or seven people are travelling, for example two families together or three generations,
- you want everyone to travel in one car, without having to manage two,
- you prefer to drive an automatic, as it is more relaxing on a long drive with children on the rear seats.
If there are five of you and you would like an SUV, consider the Škoda Kodiaq with 4x4 drive and an automatic gearbox. You can read more about the seven-seater version in our article Škoda Kodiaq 7-seater for rent.
Child Seats and Safety
Child seats are a key issue when holidaying with children, as they must be appropriate for the child's age and weight. You have two options: bring your own, which your child is used to, or ask us in advance about the availability of a seat. Please do not rely on one being available on the spot. Call us or write to [email protected] and let us know the age and weight of your children. The number of seats that fit side by side on the rear seat is also relevant. With three children in one row, a larger car may be the better choice. For more details, please see the article car rental Prague: children and child seats.
Travelling Abroad within the EU
You may take a rental car abroad, but only by prior arrangement and only to EU countries. In addition, assistance services are mandatory when travelling abroad. In practice, this means:
- please tell us your destination and dates when you make the reservation, not only at pick-up,
- bring a valid driving licence and proof of identity,
- all our vehicles have compulsory third-party liability insurance and collision insurance, but in the event of an accident the client pays an excess depending on the type of insurance,
- please check the requirements that apply in the countries you will be travelling through (motorway tolls, vehicle equipment).
If you are planning a trip outside the EU, this is not possible with a rental car. You will find the terms summarised on the rental terms page.
Mileage and Length of Your Holiday
The daily rate is charged per 24 hours, and the daily mileage limit decreases as the rental period gets longer. For both the Octavia Combi and the Superb Combi, it is 250 km per day for rentals of 2–5 days and 200 km per day for rentals of 6–14 days. Before choosing your route, please calculate the total distance there and back, plus any detours at your destination. For the Kodiaq 7-seater, you will find the limits on the car's detail page.
How to Reserve a Family Car
- Determine the number of passengers, pieces of luggage and child seats.
- Choose a car depending on whether an estate is enough or you need seven seats.
- Enter your dates and destination in the reservation form and note that you will be travelling abroad.
- On the contact page or by phone at +420 703 149 146, we will finalise the child seats and any delivery of the car within Prague.
To rent a car, you need a valid driving licence and proof of identity, and the minimum age is 21. The amount of the deposit is stated on the car's detail page. You will find further options in our overview of services.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many children fit in the Kodiaq 7-seater?
Seven people in total can travel in the car, but with child seats it depends on their type and size. Please send us the age and weight of your children and we will work out together whether they will fit.
Can the Octavia Combi handle a week's holiday for four people?
For a family of four with ordinary luggage, it is a practical choice. If you are bringing a pushchair, sports equipment or a roof box, consider the Superb Combi.
Can I take a rental car to the seaside?
Yes, provided the destination is in an EU country and we have agreed on the trip in advance. Assistance services are mandatory when travelling abroad.
When should I book?
As early as possible, especially during the school holidays. Seven-seater cars tend to be in high demand, but we will confirm specific availability when you reserve.
Choose Your Car and Reserve
Send us the number of passengers, your dates and your destination, and we will advise you whether an estate car is enough or whether you should take the Kodiaq. You can make your reservation on the /rezervace page.
