A Car for the Duration of Your Project in Prague: Rental for Companies and Expats

If you are working on a project in Prague that will last several months, there is no need to buy a car or sign a multi-year lease. A long-term rental or operating lease starting from two months, with a mileage allowance of 3,000 km per month, is all you need. You keep the car for the duration of your project and return it when the project ends. At JJ Rent Car, you can collect it at our branch in Westfield Černý Most, or arrange delivery anywhere in Prague.

Who a Car for the Duration of a Project Is For

Typical situations in which this type of rental is a good fit:

  • Expats on a fixed-term employment contract. Buying a car, registering it and then selling it when you leave is neither worthwhile nor convenient.
  • Foreign companies with a branch or construction site in Prague. The team needs mobility for months, not years.
  • Consultants and auditors. They move between clients across the city and its surroundings.
  • Companies waiting for their own vehicles. A rental bridges the period until those vehicles are delivered.

What they all have in common is this: you know roughly when the project will end, but you do not want to be tied down any longer than necessary. No further commitments await you once the project is over, because the contract matches the period you actually need.

How Long-Term Rental Works

Long-term rental and operating leasing start from two months. The mileage allowance is 3,000 km per month, which covers commuting, business trips and weekend excursions. You will find further details on the long-term rental page and in the operating lease overview.

All vehicles come with compulsory third-party liability insurance and collision insurance. In the event of an accident, the client pays an excess depending on the type of insurance. You are welcome to review the specific terms in advance, or we can go through them with you by phone.

The difference between short-term and long-term rental is described in an earlier article, car rental Prague long-term rental.

Which Car to Choose

It depends on how you will be using the car:

  • Škoda Fabia is a practical choice for one person driving around the city. It has a 1.0 TSI engine, a manual gearbox and air conditioning. You will find more details on the Škoda Fabia page.
  • Škoda Octavia Combi with a 1.6 TDI diesel engine and generous space is well suited to business trips as well as to a family that has moved to Prague. See the details for the Octavia Combi.
  • Škoda Superb Combi with an automatic gearbox, satellite navigation and a 2.0 TDI diesel engine is ideal if you cover long distances. See the Superb Combi.
  • Škoda Kodiaq has 4x4 drive and an automatic gearbox. It is a good choice if you also drive outside the city or in winter.
  • Škoda Enyaq iV is an electric car that suits you if you have somewhere to charge it. We recommend thinking this through in advance, especially if you live in an apartment building.

Tip: if you are not used to a manual gearbox, choose a car with an automatic. For the Fabia, this is the vRS version; among the larger models, it is the Superb and the Kodiaq.

Mileage Limits and Project Length

The daily limit decreases with the length of the rental. For vehicles with stated limits, the following applies:

  • 1 day: 300 km/day
  • 2–5 days: 250 km/day
  • 6–14 days: 200 km/day
  • 15–29 days: 150 km/day
  • 30 days or more: 100 km/day

For a project lasting several months, it is therefore important to work out how far you will actually drive. Include your commute, business trips and weekends. If you are unsure, please call or write to us and we will go through your estimate together, so that the end of the month holds no surprises.

What to Prepare

To rent a car, you will need:

  • a valid driving licence,
  • proof of identity,
  • a minimum age of 21,
  • a deposit depending on the type of car. You will find the amount in the car's details.

Foreign nationals and expats should check in advance whether their driving licence is acceptable for rental. The surest way is to ask us by phone or email before you arrive. The full wording can be found in the rental terms and conditions.

A practical procedure for companies from abroad:

  • Decide on the number of vehicles and the expected duration of the project.
  • Find out who will be driving and prepare their documents.
  • Estimate the monthly mileage so that you can choose a suitable car.
  • Arrange collection at our branch, or delivery of the car.

Travelling Abroad and Delivery

A project in Prague often involves trips across the border as well. Travel abroad is possible only by prior arrangement and only to EU countries. Assistance cover is mandatory when travelling abroad, so please let us know in advance where you will be going.

If you do not have time to come to our branch, we will arrange delivery of the car anywhere in Prague by phone or email. For more complex requirements, please contact us via the contact page.
